We are looking for an engineer who can move fast across all of Numa, and who understands everything that ships.

### about the role

Numa is a desktop AI agent for Mac and Windows: an Electron app, our own backend on Railway, and a patent-pending memory system that does its work before anything reaches the model. So far one person has built all of it. You would be the first engineer.

We welcome AI in development, because that is how Numa was built. We will not restrict it, and we may even encourage it. Whatever writes the lines, you own the architecture, know why each part works, and answer for what reaches people. If a part needs rebuilding from scratch, you can do that too.

### what you would do

- Take a feature from idea to release on your own, across the desktop app, the server and the website.
- Design a whole architecture when we need one, and throw out the current one when it stops being right.
- Test on your own machine first: run the real app, watch what it does, and read the logs before you say it works.
- Release through staging into production without breaking anything for the people using Numa, and know how to roll back.
- Follow a bug across every layer, from a click in the app through the server to the model call.
- Review everything before it ships, and cut the slop before it becomes next month's bug list.

### you may be a good fit if you

- Have shipped a real product end to end, largely on your own.
- Understand how servers, databases, desktop apps and deploys fit together, well enough to debug them without help.
- Care what a model call costs: tokens, caching, context.
- Move fast without leaving a mess behind you.

### some strong candidates may also

- Use AI coding tools every day, and know when not to trust them.
- Have built AI agents, harnesses or memory systems.
- Have shipped signed desktop apps on Mac and Windows.

### how the lab works

So far the lab is one founder, who wrote all of Numa. There is no funnel of approvals — the person doing the work owns the decision, and writes down what they learned. We measure ourselves by the odd questions we manage to answer well, not by headcount.

Work is done in the open: every attempt becomes an entry in the index, signed and dated. You will be expected to write — clearly, in plain language — about what you tried and why.

### logistics

This role is remote. Compensation is a band, not a negotiation theatre — we tell you the band on the first call and place you in it honestly.

### how to apply

Write to info@animiste.com with the role code in the subject line. Send a CV or portfolio — whatever best shows the work you are proud of — and a few sentences on why animiste, specifically. We read every one. No cover-letter theatre; tell us something true.
